How it all started...
It was at a tent meeting held in November 1921 on the Bostwick school grounds that the organizational plans for Gum Creek church began. Ironically a rainstorm blew down the tent during the session and plans had to be completed in the Bostwick school.
Irene Bostwick Reagan joined Gum Creek as a charter member in 1921 during a tent meeting held near the church property. She helped feed and house the people who built the church structure as well as other early church workers.
The first Pastor of Gum Creek Church was Rev. C. F. Allen.
In 1931 when Rev. Peter Marshall became the pastor of the Covington Presbyterian Church (1931-1932), he and Covington Elder J. S. Gardner visited the Atlanta Presbytery asking permission for the pastor of the Covington church to serve as the pastor for Gum Creek. Presbytery agreed. Thus, Gum Creek had as its pastor one of the greatest men of the Presbyterian denomination – Rev. Peter Marshal. Mr. and Mrs. Gardner became members of Gum Creek at this time.
August 15, 1933 Rev. Peter Marshall conducted a spiritual revival. 6 people confessed their belief in Christ and sought admission into the church’s membership.
Spring of 1964 a well was drilled on the church property. It was a trying but fruitful experience as the drilling reached a certain point but water had not been found. The decision had to be made to stop or continue drilling. The drilling continued and water was found. The well was drilled approximately 580 feet at a cost of $2300. The church had $1700 available to pay for the drilling and had to borrow the remaining $600. The drilling of the well was the preliminary step for building the first Fellowship Hall.
On December 22, 1965 at a family night dinner, the Fellowship Hall was dedicated. The original Fellowship Hall was replaced with a newer structure and was dedicated on April 8, 1990.

May 1988 Dr. Jim Morgan was called as the first full time pastor of Gum Creek. He had been serving as the Stated Supply Pastor since February 1987. He remained the pastor until December 1992.
